Casey Daugherty Receives Fulbright Award

Casey Daugherty, RHS Communication Arts teacher, has been awarded a Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching grant to conduct research in the United Kingdom, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

Ms. Daugherty is one of approximately 17 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad through the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Program in 2013-2014.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright Program is an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations and foundations in foreign countries and in the United States also provide direct and indirect support. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. The Program operates in over 155 countries worldwide.

Since its establishment in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Fulbright Program has given approximately 318,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and scientists the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

This is a tremendous honor for Ms. Daugherty, our high school, our school district, and community. Fulbright Program grants are extremely competitive and limited in number. For Casey to be selected is truly something for all of us to celebrate. Congratulations Ms. Daugherty!!!

STUDENT HEALTH
Parents,
We need your help to keep your child, all students, and our community healthy. As we begin to move into the traditional cold and flu season the number of students requesting to leave school always increases. Often students contact their parents directly to pick them up without being seen in the Health Office by Nurse Botkin.

Here is how you can help, if your child contacts you expressing they are not feeling well please direct them to the Health Office before you agree to pick them up. This serves two primary purposes:
  1. Our Health Office is responsible for providing a weekly illness report to the Greene County Health Department, which monitors health trends in the area and helps to alert communities about outbreaks of disease.
  2. Sending your child to the Health Office provides preliminary, free health screening information to you before you spend money on office visits or medication and keeps your child in school learning when they are not truly sick.
We greatly appreciate your assistance in this important matter. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the high school Health Office at 735-3750.
